Information Architecture

Macro’s information architects craft Web sites that reflect the best information structure for each group of users. Developed effectively, information architecture increases the number of repeat visitors and transactions, and users are better served and more satisfied with the system. We focus on the structural design of a Web site to help users easily complete tasks and access content. Information architects create clear navigation schemes within the Web sites and take time to consider screen flow, user needs, and site features.

Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Center for Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) Web Site Consolidation
Macro was tasked with combining five large, separate Web sites into one cohesive Web presence. Combining these separate regional CAPT sites presented a significant information architecture challenge. To begin, our Web department performed an in-depth analysis of the existing content, functionality, and structure of the individual sites. We then worked with the Web departments of the various sites to gain additional insight into their requirements. A new information architecture framework was designed to accommodate the needs of the previous sites, while at the same time presenting a usable, attractive, and consistent user experience. The new site consists of a combination of uniquely designed subsections, previously the separate regional sites, while preserving a uniform structure and hierarchy.

Technology for Long-Term Care Web Site
Developed to provide an online resource for long-term care products, Technology for Long-Term Care is a unique Web site. Macro worked closely with the client to develop hierarchies of product information and labeling schemes. We then analyzed how to reflect these hierarchies best through a set of navigational methods. The information architecture was designed to allow users to navigate to, or search for, products of interest easily. The site was built to accommodate future product growth through the use of a flexible navigational scheme.
