Community Development

Community-based coalitions are a nation’s most effective ally in confronting today’s social and public health challenges. It is at the community level where the most significant opportunities to change attitudes and behaviors exist. ICF Macro designs and conducts community development workshops that unite and build capacity for action within a community. We focus on community mobilization, strategic partnerships, outreach, empowerment, organizing skills, and action planning. We turn communities into teams.

Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) Initiative Training and Technical Assistance

ICF Macro provides communications and social marketing training and technical assistance to Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative grantees to help them engage key audiences in their community. In addition to onsite TA, we furnish technical assistance services over the telephone and by e-mail on topics such as media relations, communications planning, strategy development, Web site design and development, video production, focus group testing, speaker training, multicultural training, and materials development. As of January 1, 2004, we have completed a total of 128 TA sessions.

Department of Justice and Community Policing Strategies

ICF Macro conducted a national mail survey of law enforcement agencies on community policing strategies for the National Institute of Justice. This project collects detailed information on programs and practices of community policing, organizational arrangements of the departments, roles and responsibilities of personnel, citizen participation in the agency program, and perceived effectiveness of community policing. After merging the results with a prior survey and four additional secondary databases, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the state of community policing.

Community Coalitions Training

The Prevention Coalitions and Communities Training Project (PCCT), funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) from 1994 to 2000, provided curriculum development and training support services to a wide range of coalitions, partnerships, communities, and national organizations supported by CSAP. Through the PCCT contract, ICF Macro also provided training and curriculum services for other Federal agencies collaborating with CSAP, including the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). For the OJJDP Community Support Grantees national conferences, ICF Macro conducted learning and training needs assessment, selected workshop topics, provided presenters/facilitators, and managed all the meeting logistics for several annual conferences with up to 500 participants.
