National Violence Surveys
In 2000, Macro began the design and implementation of a national survey of violence against women (VAW) and against men for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We also pilot-tested two State-level surveys on intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence (SV), and performed psychometric testing and comparison of survey instruments to measure IPV victimization and perpetuation. Modules and questions were developed that could be included in existing surveys, and a repository of VAW surveillance data was established, along with access guidelines. As part of the project, Macro also identified deficiencies during the cognitive testing and submitted a subsequent report to Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. This project was initiated in response to a need for consistent data gathered on an ongoing basis, expressed at the 1998 Workshop co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ): "Building Data Systems for Monitoring and Responding to Violence Against Women."
State of Community Policing Survey
Macro conducted a national mail survey of law enforcement agencies on community policing strategies for the National Institute of Justice. This project collects detailed information on programs and practices of community policing, organization arrangements of the departments, roles and responsibilities of personnel, citizen participation in the agency program, and perceived effectiveness of community policing. After merging the results with a prior survey and four additional secondary databases, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the state of community policing.
Substance Abuse Prevention and Justice Issues
The Prevention Coalitions and Communities Training Project (PCCT), funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) from 1994 to 2000, provided curriculum development and training support services to a wide range of coalitions, partnerships, communities, and national organizations supported by CSAP. Through the PCCT contract, Macro also provided training and curriculum services for other Federal agencies collaborating with CSAP, including the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). For the OJJDP Community Support Grantees national conferences, Macro conducted learning and training needs assessment, selected workshop topics, provided presenters/facilitators, and managed all the meeting logistics for several annual conferences with up to 500 participants.
