Public Relations

The ongoing goal of the Macro media department is to get you noticed—by providing comprehensive media support, skillful analysis of media needs, and evaluation of results. We work to understand a client's mission, create newsworthy messages, and develop appropriate tactics to deliver information to targeted reporters in a manner that results in coverage. We are experts at "hooking" the media and giving them what they need to get your messages delivered to the desired audiences.

Media Events Coordination
Macro has coordinated media events for the unveiling of Youth Violence: A Report of the U.S. Surgeon General, the unveiling of the U.S. Surgeon General's National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, and the presenting of the Exemplary Substance Abuse Prevention Programs Award Ceremony and Media Briefing (Center for Substance Abuse Prevention). The media activity for each event included a news conference at the National Press Club; press kit creation and production; and media outreach including calls, e-mails, and letters, coordination of interviews, tracking of press clips, and press clips archiving. We also arranged a satellite media tour, radio media tour, event Webcasting, and a CNN online Web chat for the Surgeon General's events.

Motor Challenge
The U.S. Department of Energy created several programs to promote energy-efficient practices in business and industry, starting with the Motor Challenge. Macro provided a full range of support services, developing policy; educating industry audiences; recruiting partners; supporting trade show participation; creating software, databases, and Web sites; and coordinating multiple media campaigns. Our media specialists sent advisories and news releases to the press, arranged interviews with experts, sent background materials, and made followup telephone calls. These efforts resulted in a number of highly successful program launch events held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Press coverage averaged 20 articles on each event, contributing substantially to awareness of and participation in the Motor Challenge.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Office of Communications
SAMHSA's Office of Communications (OC) faced a challenge in getting its message of resilience and recovery out to service providers, consumers, policymakers, the media, and the American public. To address this challenge, SAMHSA has retained Macro to provide a wide range of media/outreach support services as well as support in developing and disseminating promotional and technical materials. Macro currently is providing press conference support, conducting radio tours, developing and distributing press releases and media advisories, maintaining media databases and constituency mailing lists, and tracking media exposure for the agency. We are writing and designing a high-profile promotional package for use by the agency's administrator and other senior staff, which includes a 16-page, 4-color brochure, kit folder, and customized rolodex card. In addition, we are creating a series of fact sheets, a "Programs in Brief" print publication, and a Web-based database product that describes SAMHSA's agency-wide grant program.
